MLT 1.0 is stable and recommended for production. Several extensions are being designed and prototyped that may land as a future MLT release.
Themes under exploration:
- 3D support - 3D coordinates and elevation for 2.5D and 3D basemaps
- Nested types - Lists, maps, and nested properties to support modern source formats such as Overture (GeoParquet)
- Smaller metadata - Reduce per-tile header overhead and share encoding metadata across columns
